  Bangladesh is a country located in South Asia. It is bordered by India to the west, north, and east, and by Myanmar to the southeast. Bangladesh is the 8th most populous country in the world, with a population of over 166 million people. It is the world's third-largest Muslim-majority nation, and the world's fifth-largest rice producer. Bangladesh is a founding member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). The official language is Bengali, and the currency is the Bangladeshi taka. The capital city is Dhaka.
Bangladesh to the east of India on the Bay of Bengal is a South Asian country marked by lush greenery and many waterways. Its  Padma (Ganges), Meghna and Jamuna rivers create fertile plains, and travel by boat is common. On the southern coast, the Sundarbans, an enormous mangrove forest shared with Eastern India, is home to the royal Bengal tiger.
